Mayor Wagner Served with Disqualification Petition during Election Day

The U.D.P. maintains that the now re-elected Belize City Mayor Bernard Wagner should be disqualified from office because he does not actually reside in Belize City, which U.D.P. attorney Orson Elrington claims is a prerequisite for his nomination to have been approved. So they are letting the court decide. But on Monday, when the matter went before Justice Sonya Young, the case was adjourned to April nineteenth because Mayor Wagner was not properly served. Well on no other than election day itself on Wednesday, Elrington personally served Wagner; it was all captured on video and posted on social media.

“The claim by his attorneys were that he was not personally served and that by the rules that he should be personally…that there were procedures when it comes to election petitions and he was not personally served. We disagreed with that fundamentally, but we thought that it wasn’t worth the time nor the arguments before the court and so we agreed that we would go about the process of personally serving him then, if that is what they wanted. And as you know the case will continue on April nineteenth. Well I will tell you, I don’t know if you know or don’t know, but today he was personally served right across the street about fifty meters away from here – not even fifty meters, ‘bout fifty feet. So I want to see what is going to be his claim now because it was captured on camera, hundreds of persons were on here and he was served.  He refused to accept it, but he received it.”
