Is Net Vasquez’s B.T.L. Credit Card Fiasco Headed to Court?

Net Vasquez

Former chairman Nestor Vasquez stepped down from his post as presiding officer of B.T.L.’s board of directors in mid-September 2020.  His resignation came amid a scandal in which he was accused of racking up almost a million dollars in personal expenses using the company’s corporate credit card.  In the wake of his abrupt departure, an investigation was launched into Vasquez’s alleged abuse of Telemedia’s funds to finance shopping sprees in Mexico and the United States.  Net Vasquez has since retained the services of attorney Estevan Perrera to challenge several of the credit card charges over a four-year period dating back to 2016.  This morning, B.T.L. Chairman Mark Lizarraga gave a brief update on the matter during which he alluded to legal action being taken to recover the outstanding monies.

“It’s before the attorneys right now.  Some efforts have been made to repay some of the monies.  Some of the monies are being questioned as to whether, you know, in fact, Mr. Vasquez agrees that he’s liable for those.  But it is now a matter, as I understand it, with the attorneys and before the courts.  It will be going before the courts or whatever, but that process is taking its course.  B.T.L. certainly intends to first of all collect fully on that outstanding debt.  The way we look at it, it’s a debt and it needs to be collected and certainly we will be looking at the matter to see if there were any criminal wrongdoings.  So that’s with the attorneys now, like I said, but we’re certainly not gonna let it lie.”
