Allegations of Bias Against Public Service Commission Surface

Dean Flowers

According to Flowers, allegations have surfaced that members of the present commission acted bias, which would then constitute misbehavior. Flowers says that the ministry may have evidence supporting these allegations and enough of it to warrant the commissioners’ forcible removal.

Dean Flowers, First Vice-President, P.S.U.

“It is said that they acted bias. It is said that they were not above board where they execution of their duties were concerned. I am no legal mind but in my view that constitutes a form of misbehavior. So I think that the Ministry of Public Service may very well have within their possession adequate information to suggest this biasness that they alleged by which these people were operating. We have also been informed by the ministry of public service that they have uncovered evidence of wrongdoing from the top to the bottom within the ministry of public service. We’ve spoken to our representative in the public service commission and the president has also taken the liberty to speak with other members including the chairman. They are saying that on the contrary, it is the secretariat that manipulated the manner in which they operated which now suggests a case of bias. But without apology, I am saying that the Public Service is not defending the members of the Commissioner. We are defending in principal the constitution as it is written. The question as it relate to neglect of duty, we have members that are suffering as a result of this elephant fight. We have member just like that good sister that passed way from the B.N.T.U., who are now retired who have not received a salary going for months now. That is why we are concerned at what is happening here. And that is why we calling for the upholding of the constitution because our members and retired public officers who already probably are suffering from chronic conditions are waiting for this commission to meet to authorities the disbursement of their benefit package.”

It is not certain how many times members of the commission met during their term and how many times they met in 2020.
