How Will PM Briceño Address Ballooning Wage Bill?

Patrick Faber

From defending the land transaction to defending his predecessor’s borrowing. While criticizing Briceño’s economic response, Faber defended the Barrow administration’s daily million dollar borrowing to meet the wage bill. Faber says, “it was not a bad thing.”

Patrick Faber, Leader of the Opposition

“If it is Mister Prime Minster that is costing you a million dollars a day, why is it that almost three months into your term nothing has change? You continue to find that million dollars. In fact, one member of the media indeed asked that question and he did not relent from it. He owned from the fact that we continue to borrow at least a million dollars a day in order to pay these salaries but he is afraid to make any kind of major moves because he is afraid of the outcome of the election. He is afraid that he will be brought out to be disingenuous as we have already said. They thought it would be easy to pay the public servants. They criticised the Prime Minister’s borrowing which was not a bad thing in order to keep money and bread in the hands, mouths if you will of public servants in this country who continue to spend to spend and keep the economy going. It was not a bad thing but because they were so gung-ho about politicising everything they made a blunder of it and now the shoe is on the other foot.”
