Introducing the P.U.P.’s Mad Bull and His Fellow Councillor Candidates

The municipal election will be held on Wednesday, March third. Both major political parties have been working on finalizing their slates in each municipality. In Orange Walk, the P.U.P. selected the new mayoral candidate following the successful election of Kevin Bernard as Orange Walk East area representative. Councilor Ladrick “Mad Bull” Sheppard has stepped up to lead a team of young and new candidates. News Five’s Hipolito Novelo met the young politicians on the campaign trail today.

The P.U.P.’s Orange Walk slate is ready for battle on March third. Ladrick “Mad Bull” Sheppard wants to be the next Orange Walk Mayor, and he is leading a young and new slate under the theme “together development continues.”

“This has already been my passion and my dreams from since I won in 2012. I won again in 2015 and then finally in 2018. Then that is when I decided that this is my turn.”

And since 2012, Sheppard has been the people’s favorite candidate, receiving the highest number of votes in every election he has contested, each time higher than the last. For the past three terms, Sheppard has been part of a council that has been working while the P.U.P. was in opposition. He believes that since his party is now central government, he can do more for Orange Walk residents. Even though he is seen as the sports councilor, this Mayoral hopeful says he has what it takes to lead the town.

Hipolito Novelo

“So what if I tell you that the criticism is that Bull, all you know is sports. How can you manage a town?”

Ladrick “Mad Bull” Sheppard

“At the end of the day, I always tell my public, reflect back to what has been happening at the Orange Walk Town Council. I saw again, this town council has been working. We didn’t sit back and say because we are under a U.D.P. central government we will not make a move. Kevin was bold enough to tow the whole team and tow this town and do as much work as he could without any regrets and like I said, I being the mayoral candidate from Orange Walk. We can only get better. We can only do more work.”

Hipolito Novelo

“However don’t you feel that you are being too overly hopeful maybe to a fault because you believe that the P.U.P.’s massive win in November will spill into municipal elections?”

Ladrick “Mad Bull” Sheppard

“No I don’t think so, Polo. Just myself and my credibility and the work I have done in the community myself have done, I have done many things for the community. So we want to the persons to believe in the mayoral. We want them to believe in the person I am.”

Doreth Pascacio

But it’s not only about the Mad Bull, but also about his entire team, and today we caught up with them on the campaign trail. They are mostly newcomers, Doreth Pascasio, Allen Yu, Joana Rodriguez, Joesie Cantun, Kadir Escalante, and Fernando Sanchez, who is seeking a second term.

“What I hope to achieve in the next three years is that I want the youth to be more a pat f the town council. I want to be able to pave more streets; I want to be able to educate more single mothers out there. Not only educate them but also help them in the community so they can become independent individuals.”

Allen Yu

“I see the needs of the community and I hope, if elected, I can make things better. For example, Mayoral candidate Ladrick Sheppard gave me an idea because they want to have a safer town. One way we can do that we were thinking about implementing cameras at key points in the town and that is something hopefully I can use my assets and with technology and I would hope to implement.”

Joesie Cantun, P.U.P. Councilor Candidate, Orange Walk

“I am an environmentalist at heart and I always believe that going green is the way forward. So what I want to work on is the amount of garbage that the household produce so I want to work bettering the garbage situation, going green, having clean up campaigns and I know that together we can a greener and more beautiful town.”

And this P.U.P. slate says that they have been warmly welcomed by voters.

Ladrick “Mad Bull” Sheppard

“I think, Polo, we have an excellent team. I think these are faces that the Orange Walk people have been seeing many times in the community and I think with the aggressiveness that we have we can do wonders today.”
