P.G. Man Dies in R.T.A.

Another motorcycle rider wasn’t as lucky. A man died as a result of a crash on the Southern Highway over the weekend.  Police say that the Elridgeville resident Joshua Briceño was driving his motorcycle through Forest Home Village when he slammed into the back of a pickup truck parked on the side of the highway. Police say speeding may have been a factor in the deadly collision.

ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch

“They met and spoke with one David Linares who reported to police that whilst he was travelling from a south to east direction, he decided to pull over on the right hand side of the highway when shortly thereafter he heard a loud bang on the back of his pickup. When he came out check he realized that a motorcyclist Joshua Briceño had ran into the back of the vehicle severely injuring himself. As a result, thirty-two-year-old Joshua Briceño was transported to the Punta Gorda Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.  We do believe Mr. Briceño was speeding because the vehicle had already pulled off the highway at the point of the collision.”

“Sir, so in a case like this, the driver wouldn’t face any charge or wasn’t at fault?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“Well, yes, he was detained as a part of the investigation.”

Police say that samples were taken from both drivers to determine if the men were under the influence during the road crash.
