Opposition Leader Calls Out Briceño Administration for Nepotistic Appointments

When the People’s United Party was in opposition, its members bashed the then U.D.P. Government for its nepotism. But since the P.U.P. has now formed government and political boards are being appointed, the now opposition U.D.P. is turning the tables.  The U.D.P. is calling out the Briceño Administration for what it says are nepotistic appointments to several government boards, including the S.S.B., B.E.L., and B.W.S.L.  The matter was brought up by Opposition Leader Patrick Faber during the Sitting of the House on Friday.

“Look at all the nepotistic appointments that have been made. I believe that my other colleagues Madam Speaker will go into details of all of this but my friend from Caribbean Shores surely had grave issues with what he thought was nepotism in the last administration and in fact now we see him full circle abandoning what those principles were.”

“I was hoping that you would raise the issue of my sister-in-law who is doing an excellent job as the DHS in this country. Let me tell you something there Honourable Leader of the Opposition, unlike what happened on your side of the house, Doctor Melissa Diaz Musa has been working in the public service for the last ten years, working here way, getting promotion even under your administration sir; earning her way. It is called qualified individuals representing the best interest of Belize.   I don’t know if you leave on another planet but the DHS position not one of these coveted, cushy, New York swanky apartment jobs like the Ambassador to the UN Lios Young Barrow, Sir. This is the most difficult job today in country. That is work. Again another alien concept to you. It is not awarding the son of the Prime Minister, a one hit wonder, with the title of Music Ambassador. You are missing it.”

People who have experience in business, in management, in finance in the different industries. We believe that putting these people together we can get these boards working again. I mean no offence to the former senator Juliet Thimbrel. I mean you had her on all the big boards. We have no such person like that. We have put people that are qualified, that have had experience and success in business and in different industries to be able to be on these boards.”
