Mayor Bernard Wagner Seeking Re-election, but Who Will Make Up His Slate?

Bernard Wagner

Who sits as the head of the elections and boundaries commission is important to the ruling administration as in less than two months, voters will be returning to the polls for the municipal elections. As we reported on Thursday, well-known athlete Kaya Cattouse has submitted an application to the People’s United Party’s executive for a spot on its slate for the municipal elections for Belize City. Today we asked the Sitting mayor, Bernard Wagner who has already confirmed that he is seeking re-election about it. He told us that the party’s chairman will determine the slate. While he does not influence who the successful applicants will be, he hopes that they are for the people and not for personal interests.

“Given the success of this council and given the success at the recent general elections that has reenergized a lot of people, a lot of party people. It has reenergized lot of folks in the city, so a lot of people feel I want to be a part of this good thing, I want to be a part of this good party. and so you have this frenzy being created and we are just hoping that the machinery of the party is able to ensure that the ten best persons who have the city at heart and the residents of the city at heart are the ten persons who at the end of the day stand beside me on that stale.”

“Essentially weeding out the people who are not there for the people and there for personal interests.”
