Is SIMIS Garbage?

There isn’t an exact figure to indicate how much cane is in the fields, even though there is a tool that could do this very calculation. It is called the Sugar Industry Management Information System or SIMIS.  But the issue here is that farmers are resisting implementing the software, and so is the Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise, Jose Mai.  Mai says that if SIMIS would accurately predict the amount of cane in the fields, he would support it one hundred percent.  Mai says the reports he’s gotten so far show that it isn’t.

“I am supportive of anything and everything that will allow us to move the country forward. If SIMIS is something that will help us to really make an exact estimate of how much cane we have that would allow us to develop the policies that are need, I am supporting it a hundred percent. I understand right now that the maps that they have at the Sugar Cane Production Committee are total disarray. SIMIS is only a software. Garbage in, garbage out. Simple as that. There is no software that will help us, if we put garbage in there it will give us garbage. To be honest I need to get an update where we are with SIMIS. And if it is something, I am certain that it can help us. How much? I don’t know. If there is much more that we can get it accurate? Yes? Let us move forward with it.”
