A New Board of Directors for BWSL
Belize Water Services Limited is the last of three government-owned utility companies to have named a new board of directors under the new People‘s United Party administration. The appointment of Cornelio Acosta, as chairman, and eight other members succeed the selections of former senator Mark Lizarraga and attorney Andrew Marshalleck as the presiding officers of B.T.L. and B.E.L., respectively. Acosta is listed as a procurement manager at Bowen and Bowen Limited. Other members of the BWSL board include Ashton Longsworth, Crescencio Sosa Jr., Elijio Briceño, Jose ‘Pepe’ Garcia, Keith Mira, Ivar Medina, Carmelita Blanco and Doctor Victor Rosado. While Blanco is the only woman on the executive, Longsworth is a P.U.P. stalwart whose involvement with the party goes back many years. He was also a driver for former minister Godfrey Smith. There are only a few other statutory boards remaining, including the Central Bank, that are yet to name their new executives.
