A New Year’s Eve Execution on West Street

Shane Flowers

Twenty-five-year-old Shane Flowers was the last murder victim for 2020.  The Taylor’s Alley resident was dispatched in a hail of bullets on New Year’s Eve and a female companion with whom he was walking on West Street is hospitalized for gunshot injuries she sustained during the attack.  Flowers is no stranger to the law and his execution is believed to be the result of an ongoing feud between rival groups in that neighborhood.  Fifty-six-year-old Maneera Wilson, a resident of West Street, was along with Flowers when a lone gunman pounced on them.  Despite attempting to flee in the direction of Glenn Street, Flowers collapsed from his injuries and perished on the scene.  Senior Superintendent Hilberto Romero has additional details.

Sr. Supt. Hilberto Romero, Deputy Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch

“On Thursday, the thirty-first day of December 2020, police responded to a shooting incident on Glenn Street in Belize City.  Upon arrival, they found the lifeless body of Shane Flowers and another female was found at the K.H.M.H. with gunshot injuries.  She was identified as Maneera Wilson and was admitted to the K.H.M.H. in a stable condition.  Investigation revealed that both persons were walking on West Street when a male person came and fired shots towards them, causing the fatal injuries to Flowers and the other injuries to the female.  The male person then fled from the scene.  Several persons were detained and questioned in regards to this murder.”
