Cordel Hyde Speaks on Land Reform

Cordel Hyde

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Natural Resources, Petroleum and Mining, Cordel Hyde has been given the difficult task of reforming one of the most corrupt departments in government. As Minister of Natural Resources, Hyde has pledged to transform the Lands Department into a public office that is easily accessible by all types of people.  He says that he will put a stop to the hustling.

Cordel Hyde, Deputy Prime Minister

“What we have seen in the last few decades is that the people who have land get more land. What we want to ensure that the people who don’t have land get land. We want to simplify the process. We want to make it such that you don’t need a minister’s letter to get access to the lands department or to apply for a piece of land. We want to make the process more friendly. We want to remove the agents. What we have is ordinary people who go to Belmopan to conduct a land transaction has to hire agents to complete that transactions and that is what creates the skullduggery in the system.”

“The hustling…”

Cordel Hyde

“The hustling in the system and we want to fix that. If you are a tax paying persons, everyone is a tax paying person. Why do you have to pay twice for the same services. There are thousands of civil servants so when you go to Belmopan you should be treated to kings and queens. You should have access to the land. You don’t have land, you are top priority. You have land, you will have to wait.”
