Health Minister Says Doctors, Nurses Need to Respect Patients

Michel Chebat

Minister of Health and Wellness Michel Chebat has met with all regional managers to discuss the way forward. During those discussions concerns and issues were also discussed, including the horrible treatment that patients receive at the hands of medicals professionals at public medical facilities. Chebat says that he has heard a lot of complaints where patients are maltreated by nurses and doctors. He says that it needs to be corrected forthwith.

Michel Chebat, Minister of Health and Wellness

“I want to say this very clearly. If you are in a service industry as the medical industry is, if you are a doctor, a nurse, a public health inspector, whatever position you hold in any hospital it is your first and paramount  duty to treat everybody who comes there with dignity. People don’t come there because they want to be there. They come there because they are ill and the least thing we can do is to treat them with dignity and I have said this to some of the regional managers because from where I come there are a lot of complains about this and these are one of the things that we need to correct forthwith. These are one of the things we need to correct immediately.”
