Meet the New Ministers from the Northern Districts

Kevin Bernard

In the north, Jose Abelardo Mai has been given the portfolio of Agriculture, Food Security, and enterprise while his colleague in the Orange Walk division Kevin Bernard will be the minister of Youth, Sports, and E-Governance. Orange Walk North Area Representative Ramon Cervantes will serve as Minister of State under Eamon Courtney in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, and Immigration. Corozal’s Florencio Marin Junior will be the Minister of National Defense and Border Security. Ramiro Ramirez of Corozal Southeast will serve as the Minister of State in the Ministry of Natural Resources, Petroleum and Mining. While the new Ministers would confirm their appointments before a press release was issued, they were contended with the ministerial responsibilities given to them.

Kevin Bernard, Area Rep., OW East

“It was a successful meeting. I know that whenever the Prime Minister takes his statement out the people of Orange Walk East will be very pleased.”

Hipolito Novelo

“Are you satisfied with the portfolio that you have been given?”

Kevin Bernard

“For me it doesn’t matter which portfolio or which assignment the Prime Minister would have assignment me but my responsibility is to serve the residents of the Orange Walk East constituency as their duly elected area representative but I am very much please and I call you that I will do all in my capacity to work for the great people of this country, for the people of Belize. I am elected as a representative to serve the people and that is what I am going to do.”

Ramon “Monchi” Cervantes

Ramon “Monchi” Cervantes, Area Rep., OW North

“It reflects the work that I have done in the area and it reflects that the people were tired of the U.D.P. government. They were very dissatisfied and discontented with the former Area Representative. They wanted a changed. They needed a change and I put in the work that was necessary and the change came.”

“Are you satisfied with your responsibilities?”

Ramon “Monchi” Cervantes

“Yeah. We working together. It is a government.”

Ramiro Ramirez

Ramiro Ramirez, Area Rep., Corozal Southeast

“With the People’s United Party we will do the correct paper work and we don’t have to wait until last minute to do things. The job started when we won on the eleventh. We need to fix those mistakes that the UDP did. As I mention is jobs, we need to get a lot of jobs. The north is very abandoned. The UDP three ministers down there and now the People’s Untied Party won three seas and we are going to work with the people. I am satisfied because my people put me back there. Remember I won in 2012 then Campos entered. He did nothing. Now the people give me the trust again and I have to work for my people.”
