Ladyville’s Seaweed Man Dies in RTA!

Ken Faber

A seaweed vendor in Ladyville lost his life in a late night traffic accident on Thursday.  Police say that Ken Faber crashed into a meter in front of a gas station in Ladyville.  As we found out today, Faber was going through a tough time in life and was drinking to cope with the pain.  News Five’s Andrea Polanco has the following report.

Well-known Ladyville resident fifty-year-old Ken Faber died in a road traffic accident around eleven-thirty on Thursday night. Faber was driving this vehicle heading in the direction of Belize City when he lost control and crashed into this concrete post between miles eight and nine in the village. The seaweed vendor was alone when he crashed – he was trapped inside the vehicle where he suffered massive head and body injuries. According to Vicenta Myles, Faber may have been under the influence of alcohol.

Vicenta Myles, Ex-Common-Law Wife

“He was a loving caring person. A good provider. He had an alcohol problem somewhat but otherwise from that he was a very nice person.”

Andrea Polanco

“You mentioned he had some troubles with alcohol, do you believe he may have been drinking?”

Vicenta Myles

“Yap. He was drinking. Because when he is normal he would always take care of himself otherwise but under the influence of alcohol I guess he lost control and that’s where he lost everything.”

Faber was under immense stress and grieving the death of his baby girl. She is the three-month-old who was accidently killed by her epileptic mom over a week ago. The baby was buried on Tuesday of this week – and that reportedly triggered Faber’s drinking.

Andrea Polanco

“Was he under a lot of stress based on what happened?”

Vicenta Myles

“Yap. Yap. The mother is someone who couldn’t take care of the child and he had to take care of them both she and the child.”

Andrea Polanco

“You think he took that death of the baby hard?”

Vicenta Myles

“Yes. That’s his only child.  I know he was searching for that specific thing and he find it and then he lost it. So, he didn’t know how to deal with it and it was hard because he used to show my grand kids a lot of love.”

Andrea Polanco

“So, you think that love triggered even more drinking?”

Vicenta Myles

“Yes, that did. It did. Because when you are hurt and there is nowhere to turn to.  He lost control over everything and that is the sad part about it because it is really hard to know that you lost your only child.”

Myles says Faber wasn’t in the best frame of mind when she last saw him on Monday night.

Vicenta Myles

“He turned to me and said I don’t know where my heart is, if it is outside or around. So, I just said to him where do you feel your heart beat and he just look at me and then couldn’t answer and then he said we will just see what will happen after this next.”

Andrea Polanco

“So, his last days were filled with so much pain, so much agony?”

Vicenta Myles

“So much agony, yes, and he was really hurt and he was very sad. I know that could drive anybody to whatever happens.”

Andrea Polanco

“And how are you processing this loss, Ms V? I know you still had a great friendship?”

Vicenta Myles

“It is hard. I can’t explain it. He was always there for me even though he has his ways; he was with me and my grandchild. It is hard but I trust God and put my hands in his hands because I know he is going to take me through this.”
