Chester Williams: Smooth Sailing in Policing Elections

The General Elections went without a hitch from a policing standpoint. Voters were well-behaved and, for the most part, adhering to COVID-19 protocols; they went to cast that important ballot at polling stations where sanitization measures were carried out smoothly and headed home.  Commissioner Chester Williams says that while officers had to intervene in a few squabbles between party supporters from the P.U.P. and U.D.P. in a few divisions, it was easily dealt with. He spoke of the strategy that was carried out and the success.

“Let me congratulate all the men and women of the Police Department who partook in the elections operations. What we did was that we had assigned our senior command to different areas of the country to ensure that we have people at a senior level in every district with a view to ensure that we could have controlled the situation on election day so as not to allow anything to get out of control. And I must say that the police officers came out and did their utmost best to ensure that the Belizean people who came out to exercise their franchise did so in the most peaceful atmosphere.”
