P.U.P. Leader Says Police Could Have Been More Respectful to Blue Creek Churchgoers

John Briceño

The incident on Sunday when armed police rounded up a group of worshippers and their children in Blue Creek Village caught the attention of the People’s United Party. The P.U.P. says that it condemns the arrest of churchgoers. The release says that the villagers were peacefully attending church on the sacred Sunday when the police arrested them. John Briceño says that he does not condone the breaking of COVID-19 regulations, but asserts that the situation could have been handled more respectfully.

John Briceño, Leader of the Opposition

“When it comes to the Blue Creek Issue with the pastors I don’t think that it was necessary for the police to show up there with large guns. Police could have shown up there without any kind of guns and they could have taken the video. They have the necessary evidence to show that these pastors were breaking the law and then they could have told these people. These are law abiding citizens, these pastors and tell them come tomorrow because we are going to charge you for breaking the law because of COVID. There are so many ways that it could have been handled so much better. That is why we are saying we are doing to disband the GSU. We are going to demilitarized the police.  We are going to ensure that the police does not need to be walking with these huge guns unless they go into the jungle or out in the rural areas. Our press release was not necessarily condoning what took place but more of the action of the police. The police needs to be more conscious as to how they behave in public.”
