Blue Creek Mayor Objects to Mask Wearing

John Krahn

In standing in solidarity with the local church community, Evangelical Pastor John Krahn also says that his church has a capacity of over four hundred persons but since March, due to the COVID-19 regulations, they have been following the protocols but are asking government to reconsider its position on reopening of churches.  Blue Creek Mayor Abram Rempel, in speaking individually, has taken a strong position against the use of face masks.

John Krahn, Pastor, Evangelical Mennonite Mission Church

“Our congregation runs, nine out of ten times, runs attendance of around three hundred and fifty people, sometimes more, sometimes less and so that would be the size of our congregation.  We have a giant facility and to give you a little bit of setting, we have huge building that can fit in the normal sanctuary, we can fit over four hundred people.  We have a basement and we are not crammed for space, but most of the times, during the COVID times, since March twenty-second we have shut down and we’ve followed protocol.  We have been adhering to most of the protocols most of the time and we are cognizant of the fact that we are not an island to ourselves.  We are part of the Belizean people.  We are proud of our country and we are proud of the Belizean people and we want to work together with you.”

“I do not believe a mask because science is not behind it and statistics show that the COVID infected people have been to the most better part wearing masks.  Our people in our communities we have known no cases, none.  We had in the past, months ago, we had no cases that I am aware of.  So I firmly believe that the mask does not protect you from COVID-19 fellowship and unify.”
