Faber Supports Cabinet Decision to Bar COVID Voters

Patrick Faber

On Friday, Prime Minister Dean Barrow announced that persons who have tested positive for COVID-19 will not be allowed to cast their votes in the November eleventh general elections.  The news has raised concerns of constitutional rights and the exercise of one’s franchise.  While the opposition is yet to comment on the matter, U.D.P. leader Patrick Faber says that it was a decision taken at the Cabinet level, in compliance with the recommendation of the Ministry of Health.

Patrick Faber, Party Leader, U.D.P.

“I am a part of the Cabinet and the Cabinet is still very functional and in fact it was a decision that all of us made.  So I stand with that decision, yes, I wish that there could be something that could be done to guarantee the safety of all the other people who would participate in the election and still we would be able to not disenfranchise those COVID-19 positive voters.  However, our assessment of the situation, our advice from those in the health authority continue to point to this being a hazard, a threat and so a decision that we made was in absolute regard for such advice.”

We will have more from Party Leader Faber later in the newscast…
