No Evidence of an ‘Inside Job’ in Prison Breakout

Tonight, the Belize Police Department says that there is no evidence that the mass prison breakout resulted from an inside job. You’ll recall that on Tuesday of last week Commissioner of Police Chester Williams said that there certain parts of the prison escape narrative weren’t adding up. So, today we asked Commissioner of Police Chester Williams if the investigation points to prison guards colluding with the twenty-eight inmates who escaped one week ago. ComPol Williams says the investigation report doesn’t support that theory and then he directed us to the lead investigator.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

“Mr. Romero who is here is the one who is overseeing that investigation. The last time I heard from him when I got a brief, he had said to me that there is no evidence of a ‘collusion’ but he is here and you can ask him where he is with that investigation. He has said to me that there is no confirmation of collusion between the inmates and any of the prison warders at the prison.”

Andrea Polanco

“I would imagine that the guards were interrogated as well?”

Chester Williams

“Yes, the guards were interviewed as well as a part of our investigation process.”
