More Than 1000 COVID Cases Confirmed in Orange Walk District

Thirty-eight new cases of COVID-19 were identified on Sunday and a further of twenty cases today. The majority of those cases were identified the northern districts of Corozal and Orange Walk. The Orange Walk District now has more than one thousand confirmed cases, almost forty percent of the total confirmed cases in the country. According to Director of Health Services Doctor Marvin Manzanero, the steady increase of COVID cases in Orange Walk can be attributed to several factors including improper mask wearing.

“The highlight still remains in primarily in Orange Walk and Corozal. Actually out f the thirty eight samples thirty four of those would have been in Corozal or Orange Walk. Through the weekend we also noted that Orange Walk reached more than one thousand cases. Orange Walk alone the district represents almost forty percent of the total confirmed cases for that specific district.   It is a combination of situation. We still keep hearing people not adhering to the basic measures that we have been advocating for which is proper masking wearing, physical distancing and we still see clusters of families. The rural communities when you have somebody died it is clusters of families that you can easily identified and traced. So it hasn’t really been stemmed whenever you identifying an initial first family member. More and more people come out positive after that.”
