Belize Specialist Centre Closes DUE to COVID-19 Infections

Marvin Manzanero

Belize Specialists Hospital has closed down until further notice after members of its staff tested positive for COVID-19. A total of seven persons have tested positive and are in self isolation. The affected staff members are showing mild to no symptoms. A release from the hospital says that a thorough sanitization of the facility is underway. Director of Health Services Doctor Marvin Manzanero says that the origin of the infection is proving to ascertain since the infected staff also work at other health facilities.

“Today we have seven persons who were positive who worked there. A couple of them also worked at Karl Heusner. The region has been in discussion with them once they identified two cases and told them the best thing given that others are going to be swabbed as we tell everybody you should wait for your result and you should be engaging in any activity. If you are highly suspect case the fact tht you have turned out to be negative, or the fact that you are waiting for your result doesn’t mean that you go around doing your routine activity. So they have been asked to close off from Thursday and we got confirmation of the other five members of the staff being positive on Friday. Contact tracing has started. I am understanding that it is a bit difficult because you are not gathering the data. This is again being fed from the region almost in real time. And the patients who are calling us from that facility who may have been exposed we would not really to determine your level of exposure. That ideally should be done by the personnel that saw you there. The doctor would know how much of an engagement they had with you. The doctor is also a professional so he should know what level of exposure or the facility. They put out a press release on Saturday and so we anticipate that they will be answering the concerns of their patients that they may have been in contact with.”
