Staff and Patients at Belize Healthcare Patients Test Positive for COVID-19

Marvin Manzanero

The infection has spread to the Belize Healthcare Partners Limited. Several staff members and two patients there have been confirmed to be COVID-19 positive. And while Belize Specialists Center has closed, Belize Healthcare Partners Limited says that its services continue uninterrupted. According to the hospital, three weeks ago, BHPL was able to obtain approved Antigen tests, and it immediately started to use them to test all its medical staff, as well as patients. The tests indicated that some of the patients and medical personnel at the segregated Dialysis Unit had contracted COVID19, subsequently confirmed by PCR tests at the Ministry of Health. The Dialysis personnel are quarantined and positive dialysis patients continue their treatment in the Isolation Ward. Doctor Manzanero says that the two patients who tested positive are at the K.H.M.H. I.C.U.

Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services

“There is another separate cluster at Health Care Partners Limited, at the dialysis unit. Their staff now at the unit is positive and patients positive. Two of those patients are still at Karl Heusner I.C.U. To date one person has died. That is one of those last week. We don’t know where the source is but at least four persons at Karl Heusner who are not positive,  would have been interacting and working at these two other facilities and where they more than likely they were exposed.”
