P.U.P. Says Applying for Land Should Be Convenient

Cordel Hyde

The P.U.P. says it will also reform the land system.  The P.U.P.’s Deputy Party Leader Cordel Hyde says that applying for land should be simple and convenient for Belizeans. The party also plans to digitize the lands department, which Hyde says, means further transparency and easy access for land applicants.

Cordel Hyde, Lake Independence Area Rep., P.U.P.

“Just giving the land is not enough. We must support the new landed with capacity building and targeted support. We must support small farmers to succeed. Small farm means development, less poverty and more food security. The process of apply for and receiving land must be simple, transparent and uniformed. It must be non partisan, friendly and convenient. No more letter for ministers to apply for land. The criteria will be simple. As long as you are a first time land owner you can apply. No more partisan distributing of land. Land distribution will be based on need. What is the good for the landless, is good for he the party.  No more middle men at the lands department. No more paying for public service you have already paid for. No up and down to Belmopan for rural even town and city folks. We are living in a modern area. Central government should be going to the people not the other way around. The digitization of the lands department should mean more transparent management of national lands. But also more convenient and friendly service to our people wherever they are in our country and prioritize national development where small farmers and budding small farmers will be top priority.”
