U.D.P. Condemns Violence against Women

Patrick Faber

Crime, citizen security and gender based violence also formed part of the U.D.P.’s manifesto launch. As for crime, Faber says that the root cause of the problem has to be tackled. The party also took the opportunity to condemn violence against women.

Patrick Faber, U.D.P. Leader

“We absolutely have to fight the root causes of crime as well. That for me speaks to the family structure. We have to get back to some of the basics that we have department from. When we don’t take care of our families, when we don’t provide positive opportunities for our youths; especially our young males. When we don’t do this they turn out to the criminal elements that some of them have become and really terrorized our society so we have to provide these opportunities. And for me, they might say that I am bias but education to me is one of the greatest opportunities to life people out of that.”

Tracy Taegar Panton

Tracy Taegar Panton, Albert Area Rep., U.D.P.

“Violence against women that we have agreed within this party is not one up for political jostling. This is an issue that requires strong leadership. It is an issue that requires bu partisan support. It is an issue that requires the right amount of resources in terms of building out those institutions that support women and children. It requires us strengthening if you will the domestic violence unit of the police department and the family court system to ensure that women have not only access to some legal support but other support services that we offer to empower women, enamel women, to be able to navigate what seem to have become, it is almost like a culture epidemic in this country. It will require all of us on both sides of this political divide and all of us in our community to take a strong stand against violence, and particular violence against women.”
