Fourteen Prisoners on the Run!

Of the twenty-eight prisoners who broke out of the Belize Central Prison, thirteen have been recaptured so far, one is dead and fourteen are still at large. This morning, when Commissioner of Police Chester Williams updated the press on the prison breakout, there were nineteen prisoners on the run. But five of them were caught at mile twenty-five on the George Price Highway this afternoon. Those five are Philip Bowen, Deandre Guiffaro, Darren Vasquez, Victor Galeano and Joel Sierra. Williams told reporters that the manhunt continues for the escapees whom he believes are armed and dangerous.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

“We continue our manhunt in respect to the prison break and so far we have recaptured a total of nine escapees, leaving a total of nineteen who are still at large. Of the nine who have been recaptured, one Akeem Tillett was shot and killed during the manhunt in the Coastal Road area.   You are aware that two law enforcement officers were shot out there. And when the officers were shot had the encounter with Akeem Tillett and others, Akeem Tillett who was armed with the M4-Carbine rifle that was taken from prison, shot at the security forces injuring two – a B.D.F. and a police and the police responded proportionately and Akeem Tillett was history.”

Chester Williams

“Sir, we have information that the B.D.F. lance corporal was shot with a shot gun – do those escapees still currently have that shotgun in their possession?”

Chester Williams

“We have only recovered the M4 Carbine and we haven’t recovered any other firearm from them so if that is the case then yes they will still have it?”

Andrea Polanco

“Is it the belief of the police that they have acquired more weapons?”

Chester Williams

“Of course, a man running from the long arm of the law will surely try his utmost best to arm himself so that he can ward off or defend himself from the security forces so like I said before we still do expect that they are armed and dangerous.”
