OJ Launches New Innovation Center

With the general elections just a few weeks away, politicians are busy tying up loose ends in their respective campaigns to secure as much votes as they can get on November eleventh.  One such aspirant is OJ Elrington, who is the U.D.P.’s standard bearer in Freetown.  As part of his vote seeking activities, this morning, Elrington inaugurated a resource facility which he dubbed the Freetown/Caribbean Shores Innovation Center.  It is an educational space for students, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, to gather and engage in extracurricular learning activities.

“This facility is a facility which I hold near and dear to my heart.  I have, since I took up the challenge of trying to represent the people of Freetown, I decided and from the beginning I knew that education would be my primary objective to ensure that every child in Freetown has the opportunity to have a quality education and not only a quality education but an education that addresses the needs of today.  And that is why you see the center is named the Innovation Center because innovation is the tool of tomorrow.  Innovation is the tool which solves the problems of tomorrow and the problems of today.  We’re facing a pandemic and therefore, the way we would have envisioned this has changed somewhat. One of the big things was that it was supposed to be an after school programme for the kids in the area, however, since the onset of the pandemic, obviously schools have not been meeting physically.  However, one of the problems that we know many children face is, one that they may not have access to devices which I must applaud the government for taking the initiative for trying as much as possible to provide many devices as possible, but still, that will not meet the needs of everybody, and so ,therefore, we have this facility which is opened to the public to be able to have access to not only the computers that you see here but we also have laptops and we also have tablets which are available for their use.”
