Sister of Escapee Akeem Tillett Speaks Following his Fatal Shooting

In the hunt for the escaped prisoners, Akeem Tillett was shot and killed on the Coastal Road.  The news of his death was confirmed by his sister Shandy Pech. Tillett had been in and out of prison and was serving time for robbery. In a Facebook Live video statement posted on Tuesday, Pech reacts to her brother’s death and admits that he was no saint but that his killing has left the family stunned.

“I get the news this afternoon that they kill my bigger brother and I say what? And they have some of the news that said that it wasn’t him and it was the next one dead. I just know that he died and I get it confirmed fi real.  I want unu know that my bredda neva gone dah jail fi murder, attempted murder or for rape or anything of that sort. My bredda gone dah jail fi robbery. Yes, dah wah bad thing but I wah say it. I wah say it and I can’t shame because number one I neva the live the same lifestyle that he mi di live.  So, to anybody weh the comment negative stuff – unu need to stop because deh people mi have family members weh really love deh. Same way he had we weh mi love him. I can’t stay here and take up for him because that wrong, very wrong. I can’t stay yah and tek up fi ah at all. I wah tell unu how it is. He gone dah jail fi robbery. He been in and out of jail for robbery and everybody know that by now.  I understand that dah my bredda put himself inna that position deh. Suh, I can’t stay yah and tek up fi ah and say that he was an angel and he was so – yeah. He was a loving person and he was helpful and everything. The only problem that he had was this stealing – honestly – that was the only problem he had. That dah the only thing weh mess ah up inna life.”
