16 New COVID-19 Cases!

Here is an update on the COVID-19 situation. The total number of positive cases is at a staggering two thousand five hundred and eighty-five cases, according to the infographic from the Ministry of Health.  The last batch of one hundred and sixty samples turned up sixteen positive cases in southern Belize; one in the Stann Creek District and fifteen in Toledo where the numbers were previously generally low.  In Punta Gorda, six cases were detected, seven in San Pedro Columbia, one in the village of San Miguel and one in Aquacate. Fourteen persons have recovered which means that thirty-seven percent of the total number of cases is active. Three patients remain intubated at the K.H.M.H.  So far, there are thirty-nine deaths; the latest victims are a woman in her forties, who experienced only minor symptoms and then suddenly died upon arrival at the Corozal Community Hospital.  The second death is a male who had chronic kidney disease and was receiving dialysis; this patient died at K.H.M.H. in the early hours of October thirteenth. In the Caribbean region, Barbados and Montserrat lead with the highest number of deaths at three point eight percent and three point four percent, followed by Guyana with three percent. Belize is at the bottom of the list with a one point five mortality rate.
