Ex-Con Tells His Story of Brutal Abuse behind Prison Walls

From COVID to the story of a former inmate, who was convicted in 1996 for manslaughter and sentenced to fifteen years behind bars. Before completing his sentence, in 2007, Dangriga resident Trevor Clifton Pascascio Marin, then thirty years old, escaped from prison, but was recaptured and returned behind prison walls to serve the remaining years of his sentence.  In 2011, he was released and now lives in Dangriga where he sells “bittas” for a living along with support from his family.  Today, Pascascio travelled to Belize City to tell his harrowing story of life behind bars, saying that while it was a life experience, during the time that he was incarcerated at the central prison, he was a victim of cruelty at the hands of the authorities and prisoners alike.

“On my journey of that fifteen years. It was like hell on earth. I mi glad I gone dah prison cause I mi want a change ina my life cause I mi young and just wild. So I mi use that fi help me to reform my life; at the moment, we noh mi di get it. It was lone bloodshed; everyday man mi di run out ina wheelbarrow weh dehn juk up, stab up. The prison was running by an inmate, Mark “T-Dog” Stuart and his gang. Get brutalized by him and the officers cause the officers dehn di sell out cause officers wah beat yo up fi that one. Every day, wah two three man run out ina wheelbarrow; sometimes dehn make it, sometimes dehn noh make it.  We were beaten bad, but I was the one that they took to the medic centre on the stretcher and bring back to super max. Four months I noh walk. The disc ina mi back dehn burst up; see I got the scars to show. My forehead, if yo check mi picture before I gone dah prison I neva had this burst yah; dehn split open this with zericote. From my leg here; if yo notice wah split deh yah. Wah muscle run from yah to yo leg, this burst from inside. I live ina pain; I live ina pain. I go sleep dah night and the same thing play over. I dream the same thing weh I done gone through.  I wake up soaking wet with sweat. I come outta prison, I explain to certain people and nobody study.”
