B.P.P. Says Elections and Boundaries Department Isn’t Playing Fair

Patrick Rogers

Much like Port Loyola across town, the Pickstock constituency is also seeing a three-way race between Patrick Rogers, Anthony ‘Boots’ Martinez and Anthony Mahler, for the Belize Progressive Party, the United Democratic Party and the People’s United Party, respectively.  While the candidates for the two mass parties have been furnished with a revised voters list post September eleventh, the B.P.P. says it has been punked by the Elections and Boundaries Department which it claims deliberately withheld the revised roll from party leader and Pickstock Standard Bearer Patrick Rogers.

Patrick Rogers, Party Leader, B.P.P.

“Our problem Belize, is that since June the Belize Progressive Party has not received any updates from the Elections and Boundaries Department.  I have here with me two letters that the chairman of the party has been contacting the Elections and Boundaries since early this month, this one is October sixth and this one is the fourteenth.  So since the elections have been called, we’ve been asking the department to please provide us with, if not a hard copy, at least an electronic copy of the compiled list of voters that will be participating in the election on November eleventh.  The matter got a little bit crazy, if yoh wahn seh, when my opponent from the government contacted my polling area captain and showing him a list of the voters for Pickstock that they know who we don’t know because, you see, in the month of July, as one U.D.P. aspirant for Pickstock is transferring voters from Port Loyola into the Division, the new candidate for Port Loyola was subsequently transferring voters out of Pickstock into Port Loyola.  Now my polling area captain has a list before transfers that when he goes to those people who are still residing in Pickstock they laugh at him and seh, “But you noh have the updated list.  We live here but we noh wahn vote eena Pickstock anymore.”  So this is our problem, where we would like to know who are the people that transferred in and out of our divisions because the old list we have before transfers are not valid.”
