Teacher releases “Point of Order”

Story PicturePoint of Order is the newest publication that will be released joining the growing number of local books. Authored by a Belizean writer, it is an anthology of thirty-two poems and four short stories. It addresses prevalent issues within the society as well as personal experiences. According to teacher, poet and author, Ivory Kelly, she’s been building the collection of her writings over the past ten years.

Ivory Kelly, Poet & Author, Point of Order
“I’ve always been writing but it has not been until perhaps the last ten years or so that I have decided to really compile my works and take seriously the idea of publishing. Essentially, I am an avid reader. That is my ultimate inspiration for writing. I admire great works of other authors and I emulate them and I basically observe things that happen around me. I tend to be very introspective and when I write a poem or a short story, it is because an issue in society or something that I experience happening around me has inspired me and sometimes I feel as though I don’t even have a choice and I have to write”

“The works in Point of Order address a range of issues relevant to Belizean culture and society. Issues such as interethnic dynamics, family relations, politics of course, love, hate, crime, etcetera. The short stories also address those issues and also universal issues. There is a story in there that is inspired by a recent political event; I think readers will find that very interesting. The stories also touch on Belizean History, Belizean Culture.”

The launch starts at seven p.m. this Saturday night at the Bliss Centre for Performing Arts.
