Lova is Shot and Killed in Alaska

Leon Peyrefitte

Police had their hands full on the extended weekend. Aside from the unprecedented jail break, there was a narco-plane landing and three persons were murdered over the weekend.  The first murder occurred in Belize City outside a popular shop in the King’s Park area.  Leon Peyrefitte is believed to have been lured to his death as he was not one of the regular patrons at the shop where he found himself on the night of his demise.  He was along with his wife when he was executed on Saturday night. A gunman wearing a mask rode up, shot him once to the head and finished him off as he fell to the ground. News Five’s Isani Cayetano reports.

Thirty-four-year-old Leon Peyrefitte was a long way from home when he met his untimely end at this popular watering hole in Belize City.  Jian Ye Shop, or Alaska, as it is also known, is a well-known location on 2nd Street.  On Saturday night, Peyrefitte, his wife and a few friends were socializing outside of the establishment when death came knocking.  The Faber’s Road resident was coldly rubbed out in a storm of bullets fired at him from a close distance.

“What we understand is that he was along with family members and friends when two individuals were seen coming on a motorcycle.  The passenger on the motorcycle jumped off the motorcycle and went direct and fired shots in his direction, causing his death.”

The deadly shooting, it is believed, was captured on surveillance cameras mounted on the outer walls of the building.  The incident unfolded a little after seven p.m. just across the street from where outgoing Pickstock Area Representative Wilfred ‘Sedi’ Elrington resides.  Over the years, Alaska has grown in popularity and patrons who often loiter are there for the sole purpose of public drinking.

“We have interviewed several persons and based on what we are gathering, it might be a possibility of a family dispute.”

“Any suspects at this time?”

Supt. Alejandro Cowo

“We don’t have a suspect, but we have interviewed the wife and other persons that are of interest and I believe that they can assist us in the investigation.”

According to Peyrefitte’s sibling, he was lured to his death because he does not frequent that north side location.  The couple, we are told, often squabbled with each other and threats have been made in the past on Peyrefitte’s life.  The family believes that his death is the result of an argument sometime earlier.

Supt. Alejandro Cowo

“It’s a domestic related matter that we suspect.”

Peyrefitte was reportedly leaning on the pan of his pickup truck when his attacker, who was purportedly wearing a helmet and face mask, walked up and shot him in the head, before firing four more times as he fell to the ground mortally wounded.  Prior to the fatal encounter, Peyrefitte, we understand, suggested leaving the King’s Park for another establishment in the Belama area.
