COVID Makes its Way to Three B.D.F. Camps

Marvin Manzanero

From recent statistics gathered by the Ministry of Health, there are indications that COVID-19 has found its way into three military camps in the north, west and south of the country.  According to Doctor Marvin Manzanero, cases are also being recorded in the coastguard.  The numbers up to Monday night show that there are nine hundred and sixty-six active cases across Belize.

Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services

“When you look at the data of what has happened over the weekend, you will notice that the numbers are still primarily concentrated up north but we are now seeing a surge in cases in Belize City or the Belize District.  There’s still a huge amount of tests being done, I think on Saturday is the record number of tests done in one single day, that’s four hundred and twenty-eight.  So I think we need to be appreciative of those efforts that are ongoing in terms of trying to keep up with contact tracing and trying to keep up with all the contacts of potential suspects.  We note however that if you look at the notes we have gathered, we reported initially an outbreak at a B.D.F. camp in Orange Walk but then through the weekend we also noted some cases at Belizario Camp which is in Central Farm and one in Fairweather Camp in PG and some cases being reported within the coast guard.  So those situations, I think, are not really, speak to when we have a congregation of persons there then those are where the cases are popping up.”
