COVID-19 Numbers Go Up by 63

Marvin Manzanero

Sixty-three new cases of COVID-19 were identified on Thursday from a batch of two hundred and sixty samples. Going into the extended weekend, the new total number of cases has climbed to two thousand three hundred and seventy-three. The breakdown shows eight hundred and eighty active cases of the virus in the country and one hundred and forty-nine that are under investigation. Majority of those cases are from the Belize and Orange Walk Districts. DHS Marvin Manzanero crunches the numbers.

Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services

“Yes that was yesterday’s data, Duane and the relative note for what’s going on in Orange Walk and we had flagged from the day before that we were following closely those increasing cases, some of them pegged to cases in Orange Walk, but not all of them. And once you have not been able to establish links that’s when you consider elements of community transmission happening. So when you look at the total number of cases reported out of the sixty-three, most of those were in Belize District and Orange Walk District, with vast amount of them being in Orange Walk Town and many of those cases also came from the Kolbe Foundation, the prison where we are following cases as well.”

The breakdown is as follows: one from Mahogany Heights, four from Corozal, twenty in Belize City and thirty-eight in Orange Walk. Thirty-two patients recovered from the virus bringing that total to one thousand four hundred and fifty-nine.
