U.D.P. Optimistic of a General Elections Victory

Patrick Faber

The United Democratic Party is optimistic that it will be successful at the polls on November eleventh, in its bid to a win a fourth consecutive term in office.  While it is fighting an uphill battle, its new leader is confident that his area representatives and standard bearers will dominate on election day.  Stopping short of throwing out numbers and margins, Party Leader Elect Patrick Faber says that the U.D.P. continues to have a very good chance of winning the next general elections despite the challenges it is facing this time around.

“There are some seats that are more of a struggle for us.  We concede, and in fact there are some seats that we hold now that we see an uphill struggle with.”

“Would we be able to speak about some of those?  Let‘s talk about Dangriga, for example, we know the infighting.  Let‘s talk about Belize Rural South, we know Junior Heredia is the lion of that division but San Pedro Town has been depressed for so long.  Belize Rural Central is a marginal seat, the U.D.P. only won it by less than seventy-five votes in 2015.  Those are key areas.  Let‘s look at Orange Walk East, for example as well.  What can you say about those?”

Patrick Faber

“I can only say those are your views because you last spoke to the Leader of the Opposition and he may have conditioned your thinking.  I believe that we will win Dangriga quite easily.  I think that well if you note the U.D.P.’s history in Dangriga, you will know that there is never a shortage of that kind of divisiveness on the normal, but when it is election time we hug up and we know how to win.  I see that happening.  Papa Mena knows how to win, the mayor is onboard and all of those other factions, if you will, will come together nicely and win.  It also helps that the, let me leave the P.U.P. alone.  If you‘ve noticed the kind of campaign that we‘ve employed, I watch these ads on the news at night and the bulk of their ads are at attacking me and others and when they can‘t attack me, they attack who I associate with, my colleagues and so on.  They run a very negative campaign and they are yet to really tell this nation in any kind of concrete way apart from their little shenanigans on social media and so on which nobody really looks at, it would seem to me, they are yet to really be concrete.  But I say that because I think our candidates on the ground, as I‘ve said before, stand a very good chance.”
