6 Prison Officers and 3 Prisoners Test Positive for COVID-19

There is an alarming increase in positive cases among frontline workers. During today’s Ask the Expert webcast, Director of Health Services, Doctor Marvin Manzanero confirmed that twenty-seven positive cases were detected from a group of sixty B.D.F. soldiers at a camp in Orange Walk. There are also fourteen police officers, three were identified today. Additionally, four healthcare workers have also tested positive. The virus has also been found at prison. Last Friday, four prison officers tested positive for COVID-19. Today, two other prisoner officers and three prisoners tested positive. Doctor Manzanero says that a health team was today deployed to the prison where a further ninety persons were being screened.

“A further two prison officers have tested positive so that makes a total of six. And in a screening process that was done yesterday, three prisoners were detected as positive cases; that is on the SD BIOSENSOR Rapid test that we have been using. This was done out of a random process. The prison is divided into different areas so random process was done and these three prisoners, one of them had been symptomatic the day before and that’s why that person was screened. And the immediate close contacts of this person were also screened and they all turned out to be positive. Those samples are going to be further processed through a PCR screening process and until that is done, then you will see that reflected in the infographic. The preliminary data that I have is a further ninety persons are to be screened or swabbed if they haven’t been screened or swabbed today, but I haven’t had the report of what that screening process has entailed.”
