COVID Deaths Climb to 30

Two other persons also died as a result of the novel coronavirus over the weekend, bringing the total number of deaths to thirty or a mortality rate of one point three seven percent. On Friday, a female from Corozal was rushed to K.H.M.H. in a critical state and died; on Saturday a man in his seventies who had been admitted at the Northern Regional Hospital with a diagnosis of COVID-19, also passed away due complications related to the virus. And then, as we reported, Smith died on Sunday. Director of Health Services, Doctor Marvin Manzanero late this evening spoke to News Five about the recent deaths.

“The last one being a male from the Cayo area that died over the weekend. Again, he has a myocardium infraction which has been described happens in people who have COVID-19, poor thrombotic responses that can lead to those kinds of conditions. So that seems to be the predominant reason why people are actually dying; it is not necessarily respiratory failure, but other conditions such as myocardium infraction and de-compensated chronic conditions.”

“And then there was a woman I believe from Orange Walk and a man from Corozal?”

Dr. Marvin Manzanero

“Yeah both cases were from the north. The one from Corozal came critically ill and died at Karl Heusner. Again as I said, once people are showing up rather late, it makes it difficult to have a successful intervention. And then a female from Orange Walk had been hospitalized already at Northern Regional and just never improved.”
