170 New COVID Cases in 3 Days

There are one hundred and seventy new COVID-19 cases identified in three days. Between Friday and Sunday, eight hundred and thirty-eight samples were tested for the novel coronavirus of which a little over twenty percent returned positive. The alarming figures, majority of which were discovered in Corozal and Orange Walk has the Ministry of Health re-strategizing and a team of health officers will be deployed to see what can be done to reduce the rate of transmission. Doctor Manzanero says that they are working with the association of village councils and other stakeholders to assist in the effort.

Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services

“The trend that has been happening over the last three to four days, we have had numbers that are little bit higher than what we would have wanted, particularly in Orange Walk and Corozal. So we have a team that is going up to Orange Walk tomorrow and Corozal later on in the week to find out what other mechanisms we may need to set in play to try to curtail those numbers. I mean the numbers in Orange Walk have kind of plateaued.  In some communities it is contained, but now other communities are starting to show an increase.  I just was having a meeting with the internal team at headquarters to see what work is happening on the ground. And there is a level of commitment from the communities to work with us, the community health workers, with NAVCO in the different villages and trying to look at different mechanisms to reach the population in order to get our prevention messages across.”
