Sigh of Relief as Dangriga Family Return Safely Home

There was a sigh of relief in Dangriga when a family returned home safely.  Over the weekend it was wildly reported that the family of Francis Ramirez had perished, but on Sunday, a crowd gathered at the riverbank to receive the family. They had gone fishing and failed to return as scheduled so the worst had been feared. Here is Duane Moody with a report.

Reports spread like wildfire over the weekend of a double murder at sea near Glover’s Reef east of Dangriga. Boat captain Francis Ramirez, his common-law wife, Elena Flores, his nephew and two other relatives left the southern town on a fishing trip on September thirtieth; they were to return on October second, but didn’t. Instead information reached the family that Ramirez and his nephew had been shot dead.

On Sunday, police and coastguard were on high alert; the forensic team attached to the police station was also seen patrolling the mouth of the river and a coast guard team posted near Long Caye was patrolling the harbour. There was a sigh of relief for the entire family and friends who stood along the river bank and witness the fisherman and his family return to shore safely.
