Turning to the other COIVD numbers; out of one hundred and eighty samples, thirty-four additional cases of COVID-19 were identified on Thursday night with the majority of the new cases being identified in Orange Walk District. Cases were also detected in the Cayo, Belize, and Corozal districts. So far more than fifteen thousand tests have been conducted and two thousand and twenty-six persons have tested positive for the virus. “Over the last three, four days we seem to have a particular trend in terms of total number of cases. What we have gone through a little bit of a dip, the number seem to be a little more consistent. Not only number of cases but positivity rate which means percentages of positive also total samples done. Thirty four new cases yesterday, a hundred and eighty samples. Most in Orange Walk so I say that is where the complication of the efforts is for now, Orange Walk. Corozal that had a bit of a spike toward the end of last week and the beginning of this week.”

“Is it your opinion that the public has relaxed in terms of taking COVID pandemic as a continued serious threat?”

“I think there are two things that have driven this. One is even though there is also restriction still in place, you cannot have gathering with more than ten, those situations are still very much in place and they are trying to minimize social interaction. But the sense that we are getting especially from the people in the field and in the rural community is that people have not really internalized the message. There are certain people having let their guards down a little bt and that is part of the reason those numbers particularly up north.”
