Rental Contract for Boots Building Expired in August 2020

Judith Alpuche

According to Alpuche the contract for the rental of the building expired this year in August and preparations were made for relocation prior to the expiration date. She says that an extensive search was done for an appropriate building and while the property owned by Martinez was not first choice, it was rented.

Judith Alpuche, C.E.O., Ministry of Human Development

“It is not something that was a first choice. It was a last resort really in terms of really having to move because of the health concerns, because we didn’t have the physical space and not being able to find another building that would fit our purposes and it was temporary. So it was not the rental of properties and millions of dollars. I have no idea of that. I can only tell you as it relates to the Ministry of Human Development.”

“When you say that another building was built, when did you stop renting well not the ministry you are saying through the public service, when did that stop?”

Judith Alpuche

“It stopped as soon as in August, 2020 this year. Because we were literally pushing to move out of the building before the contract expires. So the contract expired, COVID and everything else, I think the contract expired I think the eighteenth of August and we moved out a few days before that.”

“Mind you how do you rationalize that he s the Ministry, we are talking about the Minister of Human Development Minster Anthony Boots Martinez, your minister, how did that conversation even come up to say  well this building is available as oppose to other buildings.”

Judith Alpuche

“There was a search of buildings as I said. They were not coming up with anything else in terms of what was adequate. I will not characterize it any further.  Those are the facts. That is the thinking. Those are the circumstances.  And that is what it is in terms of there was a need to find something that was adequate for people to move because of their health, because we needed to accommodate more officers. This was along search, because of the issues of the mold and so forth and even the rats. Anybody who worked in that building downstairs, in the old building, could tell you around five o’clock you have to roll, you had to come out because the resident Charlie Prices were coming in.”
