Man Injured in Shooting in San Andres, Corozal

Hilberto Romero

A fifty-year-old man, who recently relocated from the Cayo District to San Andres Village in Corozal, was the victim of a shooting in the early hours of today. As Juanito Quetzal waited for a taxi, a gunman emerged and opened fire at the unsuspecting man. He was struck multiple times, but survived the attack and is now in a stable condition at the Corozal Community Hospital. While police are following several leads, a motive behind the attempted murder is unknown at this time.

Sr. Supt. Hilberto Romero, Deputy Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch

“Around 4:40 a.m., police responded to shots fired at San Andres Village, Corozal District. Upon arrival, they spoke to Juanito Quetzal who reported that he was on his veranda waiting for a taxi to take him to the bus terminal when he was approached by a male person who fired several shots at him. He received gunshot injuries to the shoulder and thigh. He is presently listed in a stable condition and investigators are following up on leads that we have at this time.”

“Sir are you all able to say if this is something related to ongoing rivalries in that town? We know we have seen some crimes recently.”

Sr. Supt. Hilberto Romero

“No, none at all. We have nothing to suggest that. This person recently came to live there as he used to live in Cayo.”
