Twenty-three New Cases of COVID-19

Marvin Manzanero

There are a total of twenty-three new cases of COVID-19 to report on tonight.  That figure, nonetheless, is yet to be confirmed by the Ministry of Health.  According to Doctor Marvin Manzanero, a hundred and seventy-four samples were tested overnight and the results of those specimens are still trickling in.  A majority of those positive results are coming from Orange Walk District.

Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services

“We did some preliminary tests, the majority of the tests, I think some of those have just started to come out would be in people who had arrived one week ago on a flight.  So those results are starting to just be populated into the system.  For now, I have preliminary data, a hundred and seventy-four samples with [twenty-three] positive cases.  Of course, when we say [twenty-three] positive cases we have to go back and always verify whether these are people who are previously positive and are just in the follow-up tests still turning up positive or whether they are what we call truly new positive cases.  That’s the preliminary data that I am just getting.  In the next couple of hours we should be able to corroborate these samples.”

“To go back a bit to the case involving the woman from the Elections and Boundaries Department, I notice that across the city a majority of the offices for E&B are closed today.  Do you know if samples or swabs are being conducted in respect of those persons at that the offices or people who presumably came in contact with this patient?”

Dr. Marvin Manzanero

“Well routinely what we wait for is one result of any, I mean we have to wait for the positive result to see if in point of fact that’s a potential case or what you can routinely do is try to go back and identify whether she was a contact of any known positive case that would have given her the transmission and then you do your mapping exercise.  So if you find out that there is somebody positive in that social circle then you have to go back and identify any highly symptomatic cases to begin with and that’s how you do your mapping.”
