Kareem Musa Reacts to Wil Maheia Wanting to Run in Fort George

Wil Maheia

Belize Territorial Volunteer Wil Maheia announced on Thursday that he will run in the Fort George Division under the Belize Progressive Party.  According to Maheia, who has lost twice in Punta Gorda as an independent candidate, because the Fort George Division is smaller, his campaign could be easily financed.  If he is nominated, Maheia will go against the U.D.P.’s Melvin Hewlett and the P.U.P.’s Henry Charles Usher.  It will be an uphill battle for Maheia since Fort George is a P.U.P. stronghold with the now retired Said Musa representing the division since 1979.  Caribbean Shores Area Representative Kareem Musa reacted to Maheia’s announcement.

“I think the B.P.P. over the years they have suffered tremendous losses all across the country. It is hard for a third party especially at the very last minutes, close to any elections to try to surface. It is very difficult to pick up steam because where were you over the years. I know he has done some work with the BTV. We acknowledge that, in Punta Gorda. But where was he in Fort George. We hear he wants to run in the Fort George constituency. And that is not how politics works. You have to be on the ground. You have to have a structure in place and as you know the structure that was left behind that was built b the Right Honourable Said Musa is a strong one so it is very likely, I don’t want to count our eggs but I am certain  that Fort George will be coming in blue this general elections.”
