Victor Pratt Dies Following a Motorcycle RTA on the Old Northern Road

Victor Pratt

At this time, a post-mortem exam is being conducted on the body of Victor Pratt. The thirty-three-year-old Belama resident was discovered dead on Tuesday afternoon off the Old Northern Road. There were no signs of a hit and run but he reportedly suffered an injury to his neck. The father of two has been riding motorbikes for over a decade so news to the family that he fell off his bike and to his death, do not appear credible.  News Five’s Duane Moody headed to Santana Village on the Old Northern Road to speak with the family. Here’s that report.

A post-mortem exam is to be performed on the body of thirty-three-year-old Victor Pratt to determine the cause of death of the Belama resident whose body was found on Tuesday afternoon. Pratt, who is originally from Santana Village on the Old Northern Road, left his family home in the village around three p.m. en route to Belize City, but he never made it to his destination. Less than an hour later, his body was discovered about a mile and a half from the Philip Goldson Highway off the left hand side of the road in the grass. He was face down and still on his motorbike; there were no signs of foul play.

“I mi deh dah work. About after four o’clock dehn call me and tell me that my brother get ina an accident. My mother-in-law called me and told me that because she mi deh pan ih way going home through the road and she see it and call me back and told me that my brother neva mi di move. I went there like 4:30, he still deh ina di same position ih fall. The site weh I see, the way how ih fall, fi he head turn to the back, ih foot hook up on the bike still and nowhere far from the sidewalk.”

Pratt is the eldest of eleven siblings and according to his sister Angela Matura, he has been riding motorbike for over a decade. The father of two would also travel almost daily between the city and the village. The family and the village are still in disbelief about the untimely death of Pratt.

“So he didn’t live here in Santana.”

Angela Matura

“No. he live ina Belama and this dah fi we original home, weh we come from.”

There are no signs either on the body or the motorbike to suggest that the incident was a hit and run and the family remains discombobulated.

Angela Matura

“I noh really know weh fi say; it is hard to tell the way how it happened and I just hope we get answers out of it very soon.”

Duane Moody

“From what we’ve seen of the motorbike and I am sure that family has as well, there is no dent on the motorbike to suggest that he had been hit by a vehicle. And literally the bike is working. So any idea like what happened there?”

Angela Matura

“From the crime scene, it noh show that the motorcycle get knock; no bend, no nothing. It noh show no trace that it was brakes on the road or the sidewalk. No kinda trace. Ih had two kids and I know that that dah one of the things that were on his mind to reach home and see his kids cause his daughter mi di wait fi ahn too.”
