Transport Department Clamping Down on Traffic Violators

The Department of Transport is clamping down on motor vehicles and trailers operating without license plates or with unauthorized license plates.  A team of enforcement officers will be conducting operations countrywide to check on those traffic violators.  The Department of Transport says that the operation is the first in a series of targeted measures to deal with the many infractions of the motor vehicle and road traffic act.  Enforcement officers will be deployed to checkpoints on the highways to carry out spot checks.  In this vein, the department reminds drivers to ensure that license plates are properly affixed while the vehicles are on any public road. Persons with motor vehicles registered at the department are asked to visit the offices to retrieve their pair of license plates which are to be affixed to the vehicles. According to the department, these strategic initiatives are intended to pare the malpractices and poor driver behaviour that continue to plague the roadways.
