A Local COVID Response for Orange Walk District

A team of health officials has been dispatched to Orange Walk District to assist personnel on the ground at that location with the local COVID response. The objective, says Dr. Manzanero, is to get a complete picture of the present situation in the north since Orange Walk has surpassed all other districts in the number of positive and active coronavirus cases.

“Of course, the red area as you would all know in terms of total numbers is the Orange Walk District.  So there’s a team that has been up there from Monday trying to see if we can do a bigger mapping exercise to see if we can make established linkages and see how you can change your strategy.  And this is part of the plan and those strategies are placed somewhere in there, just like when in San Pedro you had ongoing transmission then you go, you can’t test everybody, your capacity doesn’t go there, then you test for high-risk persons, elderly persons, children and symptomatic cases.  That may very well need to happen in Orange Walk and we are in the process of also rolling out the rapid tests to go there to try to see, I mean once you have community transmission and then you go for the symptomatic cases.  So I think once the team comes back today, before the end of the week we should have a more comprehensive review and snapshot of what is happening, linkages and any potential situations for people who are outside of Orange Walk and who commute, for example.”
