Will Rapid Tests be Available in Time for PGIA Reopening?

The Philip Goldson International Airport is on schedule to reopen on October first and previous measures that were being introduced for the initial startup date of August fifteenth have since been adjusted.  According to D.H.S. Manzanero, there should be two rapid tests available within the next three weeks; PAHO would have to give its approval for those tests to be used by visitors and Belizeans arriving into the country.

“Things change, of course.  For one, August fifteenth, we did not have any test that was being considered for returning Belizeans, for example.  But now there seems to be evidence out there that there might be a test that has a little bit of an advantage than others.  So that’s a consideration.  When plans were initially made because as you know initially we had it for July and then for August and then moved to possibly third of September and now it’s October first, but then your epidemic itself has changed.  Back in July you didn’t have as many cases as you have, so you really want to protect whatever you had here, whatever was going to be introduced to use those.”
