Business at Corozal Free Zone Remains Halted

As for the state of the Corozal Free Zone, Hotchandani says that everything remains at a standstill and business owners continue to lose significant sums of money the longer the area remains closed.

Anil Hotchandani, Vice Chairman, Corozal Free Zone

Anil Hotchandani

“It continues at a standstill.  We wrote a letter, just drafted a letter to the government and we are process of sending it out, like how the tourism sector has lobbied with government to open up the airport so that we can start to go back to normalcy.  I think it‘s time that protocols are put in place and then the free zone is looked at also because livelihoods are at stake, people are jobless, so thinks need to go back to the new normal, as we would say.  Of course putting in place all the protocols, you know, wearing of masks, taking temperatures, checking all the investors or anybody displaying any signs of the coronavirus will not be permitted, sanitizers in every business establishments.  So gradually we are talking about putting safety protocols in place and opening up the zone, that‘s our recommendation and definitely are open to government who would have the final say and I am sure they also want to see people go back to work.  So we are doing what we can to go back to normal.”
